The indiscriminate use of air horns by vehicles, particularly buses, on arterial roads near Singarathope in the city, has become a significant nuisance for readers at the District Central Library. This library, located on West Boulevard Road, draws a large number of readers from various parts of the city, many of whom spend their entire day preparing for competitive examinations and participating in mock tests. Additionally, the library lends books on diverse topics for readers to take home.
To ensure a peaceful environment for these readers, the Tiruchi traffic police designated the area around the library as a silent zone some time ago. This measure was intended to maintain a calm and quiet atmosphere, essential for quality reading time. According to the plan, vehicles are prohibited from using air horns within this zone. The police have also installed signboards to remind motorists to avoid using high-decibel horns in the area. Despite these efforts, the persistent use of air horns continues to disrupt the tranquility of the library, undermining the intended purpose of the silent zone.
