Description of the Department or Unit | The Appalachian State University Libraries consist of the Carol Grotnes Belk Library and Information Commons, the Nicholas Erneston Music Library, and the new Hickory Campus Library and Information Commons. Employing over 80 faculty and staff, the Libraries are an essential campus teaching and research partner inspiring and guiding all who pursue knowledge. We provide rich print and electronic collections, study spaces, technology resources, and other outstanding services to support the success of our students, faculty, and staff. The Libraries are actively engaged with the campus and local communities on a number of exciting projects and participate in several library consortia, including the Western North Carolina Library Network (WNCLN), NC LIVE, and Carolina Consortia. We work in a collegial and collaborative environment and offer strong support for professional development. Essential Duties and Responsibilities | About the University Archives and This Position The purpose of the University Archives is to collect, describe, preserve, and make accessible the records of Appalachian State University that are determined to have historical and/or informational value from its founding to the present; regardless of format. The University Archives administers the University’s records management program and oversees the University Records Center. This position leads all efforts in the acquisition, arrangement, description, preservation, and management of records and associated materials that document the University’s history, organization, policies, and activities. Suggested Salary Range | $54,000-58,000 Assistant Professor; $70,000-80,000 for Associate Professor. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. |

ABD Description | ABD with reduction in rank and salary: ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate’s salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year. No ABD consideration: Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position. Since ABD will not meet the minimum requirements, ABD will not be considered. |
