The Architectural Design and Research Institute of Zhejiang University (UAD) has undertaken a redesign of Cai Yuanpei Square and Jiemin Library in Shaoxing, an area rich in historical and cultural significance as Wang Xizhi’s Native Place. The project includes revitalizing the former Cai Yuanpei Square, renovating Jiemin Cinema, and constructing new facilities for Jiemin Library.
This initiative integrates the area’s cultural heritage and distinctive architectural styles, preserving its historical context while incorporating modern elements. The redesign aims to enhance the square’s openness and improve the surrounding structures, while maintaining the L-shaped layout and wooden structure of the south promenade. Additionally, efforts have been made to reinstall the bronze statue of Cai Yuanpei, preserving the square’s historical importance.
